Discover a place where there are still places to discover…
A peninsula bounded by the Chesapeake Bay on the east and the Patuxent River on the west, Calvert County is only an hour’s drive from Washington, D.C. and yet offers one of the lowest costs of living in the greater metro area. Its no wonder new homebuyers are discovering this “best kept secret.”
In the middle of the county lies Prince Frederick, the county seat. Route 4, which runs through the county, connects Calvert County to Anne Arundel County, MD in the north and St. Mary’s County, MD in the south.
Rated the highest in Maryland schools, and abundance of recreational fun, and a secure atmosphere, Curtis Homes chose Calvert County in Southern Maryland, the “Charm of the Chesapeake” to build homes for people like you.
Calvert County is also home to:
A one-room school house
In 1977, Port Republic School Number 7’s old school bell rang out once more, and the little one-room school house, filled with its memories and memorabilia, was ready for visitors. It is now one of the county’s tourist attractions.
Calvert Cliffs
In Calvert County, you can find non-fossiliferous sands, probably of Pliocene age (the period in the geologic timescale that extends from 5.332 million to 2.588 million years before present)!
Battle Creek Cypress Swamp Sanctuary
Calvert County has a 100-acre nature sanctuary that recalls a time some 100,000 years ago when cypress swamps were common over large parts of the region and now-extinct animals like mammoths roamed the landscape. As you walk on the quarter-mile boardwalk trail, listen to nature’s harmony of calling frogs and songbirds, examine the intricate beauty of seasonal wildflowers or just gaze up at the inspiring 100-foot canopy of cypress trees that can reach an age of over 1,000 years.
